I am attempting to write a short book about the history of my state. I already have several solid primary sources for later history that I am planning on using, but I have found that I needed to do some more research for info about history a that goes farther back into the past. A good amount of this is via the internet. I have already verified the validity of the sources, but I was wondering if it would be taboo for some reason to include online websites as sources? These are mostly informational texts from universities, or government sponsored information sites from something like a national park.

I have not done much formal writing of history, outside of school, and want to make sure I do it correctly. I apologize if this is not the correct place to ask.

Before mugshots and sketch artists, did people often go on the lam and establish new identities, or was this harder to do in the preindustrial era because communities were smaller? What would have stopped someone from stealing another persona’s identity?

I know it’s a very niche topic.... Are you aware of any? Mostly interested in East and North Sumatra, Malacca Straits, etc. I really appreciate your help.

If I so chose, I could grab my cell phone, go to a pizzaria's website, fill out a form, and be eating a large pepperoni in about an hour - all without leaving my current location, and almost completely regardless of where I physically am. I can't possibly imagine that this sort of service existed before the telephone. In 1989, the movie "Do the Right Thing" has pizzas being delivered on foot, which clearly would limit the zone of delivery

When, where, and in what form did pizza (or, more broadly, single-meal) delivery services emerge? How did they spread, and at what point did they start taking on the modern form? Obviously the online order systems break the 20-year rule, but modern food deliveries are handled by specialized personnel using motor vehicles (of some form) and who are compensated differently from the normal store crew; I imagine this wasn't always the case, so that's what I am referencing by "modern".

Could for instance a citizen of one state understand the spoken or written German of another state?

Hi! I'm writing a story that is set in 16th century Japan. I've been researching it for about 3 years and have acquired numerous books describing the lives of the members of the upper echelon of society. But there seems to be precious little on the lives of those of lesser rank. Can anyone suggest any titles (ideally still in print) that may shed light on the lives of farmers, merchants, etc. in Sengoku Japan? (BTW - I already have the Oxford History of Japan). Thanks!

The story about queen Wilhelmina is that she "accidentaly" came across an English ship while visiting Zeeland and that she boarded the ship with the intention to go to Vlissingen or Breskens, but that the captain of the ship could only bring her to England.

So was this really the case or was this a "fake" story?

My knowledge, is certainly small about the topic, but as far as I understand, those camps weren't even made for the sake of laboring them. I think enslaving populations is pretty evil, but I would understand why would someone do that. But simply slaughtering so much people, just for nothing? Even if I were a psychopath that would just sound plain stupid. Spending resources on killing people who are a far less threat than let's say the Soviet Union or the Allies..

For what I know forts were stoped to being used after WW2, why?

What I am essentially asking for is a brief overview of significant trends in the field over time and the direction of those trends.
