Did it start during the 200's? Did it end year 476 when Rome officially "fell"? Or did it end in the 6-/700's? Is it basically the same as the Dark Ages? Does it clash with the Middle Ages?

Goal: I ultimately want to determine what his defenses and justifications were for giving up New Amsterdam so easily.
Link to his surrender-report: http://academic.brooklyn.cuny.edu/history/burrows/NYC/Documents/stuyvesant.htm
Wanted to learn more about my Dutch history, so I decided to read up on this individual and New Amsterdam (today's NY city). I understand he blamed the citizens for having surrendered as an act of rebellion against Peter, and the West India Company did not send any resources to help fight the English...(If I understand correctly)...etc. However, what other justifications did he convey in his surrender report? It is really hard to comprehend what he is conveying as his justifications for surrendering New Amsterdam due to Old English

I obviously know the history behind 'Weimar' (It being the place where the assembly met and the constitution was drafted) but when did the term became common in usage? I heard that Hitler popularized it late in its short existence?
For me it is easy to imagine that a national assembly which had to relocate because of popular uprisings would be ridiculed for that. Based on that assumption it isn't far to guess that the term always had a negative connotation.
But today it is used interchangeably without major differences on all ends of the political spectrum. Maybe someone can enlighten me?

I think its fair to say that acts of brutality were pretty common in ancient warfare but this seems to have gone above and beyond the normal horrors of a city falling. Outside of Carthage and Rome what did contemporary commentators think of the act? Did it effect Rome's relations with other nations?

The flute is thought to be at least 40,000 years old, the first ones made of animal and human bones. I've never found a text related to how the "sounds produced by air flowing trough cavities" was first thought about or discovered. How would that have probably been like? I know there should be a lot of ways to come up with this, but does somebody knows a text, myth or legend talking about this?

Pershing was granted General of the Armies during the First World War and Dewey was granted Admiral of the Navy during the Spanish-American War. Both of these wars are relatively minor in the military history of the US, and wars like the Civil War, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam have had greater lasting impacts on the United States. Why not, say Patton or Eisenhower or Grant for the Army, or John Paul Jones, John Barry, or Nimitz for the navy? (Also Is this just recency bias at play? Were the Spanish American War and WWI that big of a deal at the time? I mean, I understand the scope of the wars, but were they that much more serious than the other wars I mentioned?)
Also: I understand that Washington was also granted the title General of the Army, but since his promotion was posthumous and ceremonial, I’m not including him in this.

Looking for a book, or maybe even a site/YouTube channel dedicated to it. I'm working on a novel and I want it to be just a bit loosely based on it. However, I have only minimal knowledge about it. Any suggestions?
Sorry if this is not the place to ask this question!

If I wanted to make it my life's goal to assemble all the original documents regarding life as a Partisan and synthesize a thesis or book from these; first of all would the greater difficulty be gaining access to these documents (if enough exist), or learning exactly what languages?
I'm thinking first of all German as they tended to keep more records perhaps than the Partisans themselves, then I'm imagining everywhere from the Baltic states' language groups to Polish, Russian, Hebrew, Ukrainian, to all of the Yugoslavian languages.
Also if you have any tips for an amateur with a dream regarding study of these issues that would be much appreciated.

Why did this not happen, people in the Americas knew about metal and had resources in iron, copper, lead, tin etc... but why did they never actually use it?
What prevented that technological leap?

I was watching a video about the Battle of Carrhae and aspects of it sounds horrifying. The question popped into my head if Romans ever had records of PTSD or something similar, or maybe they simply thought the person was crazy? Thanks.

I was looking at how proxy wars were fought and most examples I could find were of colonial-modern wars being fought but not much past that. I know there are several instances of rebellions and successions being supported by foreign powers. However I was looking for examples of two super powers fighting by proxy, by making two or more smaller nations fight each other for control of the area without direct military involvement. Thank you in advance.

Fifteen years ago, I took a course at Harvard Extension called "Jane Austen's World in History, Literature, and Film." One of the books we read was a social history monograph on a single decade in Austen's era. I remember it had a discussion of the song "The Roast Beef of Old England," and argued that the English love of plain, manly roast beef was actually a suppressed envy of French food with its great sophistication. I need that quote now, but I don't remember the name of the book! The title may have had a reference to homosociality in it. Can anyone help?
