Before people start downvoting, let me give some context.

Germany is seen as the major culprit for the war, and gets most of the blame in people's eyes. I know the allies may have some blame, but I'm just speaking generally. Japan is blamed for their aggression and even today many Chinese and Koreans are mad at Japan. But we never hear about Italy. If I am not mistaken they had concentration camps too, and they were a fascist dictatorship as well.

So I just finished watching the peaky blinders on Netflix and was wondering how historically accurate it is to the time era. For those who don't know what it's about it covers a street gang in Birmingham two years after World War One ended and deals with their rise to power and covers social issues cause by the Great War and the rise of Marxism and communism.

(For a book) - how was the process of grain-threshing carried out by neolithic (or similarly primitive) tribes? I know that there are still modern methods of doing it by hand - would they have been similar back then, for example beating the grain in a rawhide sack or something like that? Do we have any evidence of tools that may have been used to thresh?

So, I was recently listening to the song "The Price of a Mile" by the group Sabaton, which is about the battle of Passchendaele and the enormous amount of casualties (and more generally about WWI).

One thing though, I am pretty sure that I have heard the expression "price of mile" regarding some campaign in WWI (the Somme for example)... but despite looking for it I can't find anything that is not related to the song.

So WWI historian, does this expression even exist? Or is it just my memory playing tricks on me...

Ive listened to a few podcasts on WWI and currently listening to Dan Carlin's and I've noticed that everyone has been using Turkey, Turks, Turkish etc when talking about the Ottoman Empire. I always thought "Turkey" as a country only existed following WWI.

This comes after watching the movie Anastasia, where Rasputin places a curse on the Romanovs. From my understanding he was a religious figure in the orthodox church. Is it conceivable that many Russians believed in this curse?

A brief quote that sparked my question: 'the reign of Maximilian I (as king and co-ruler with is father Frederick III after 1486, as sole ruler from 1493, and as emperor from 1508 to 1519).' This quote suggests someone could be the king of the HRE and not the emperor. I have also heard of the title 'King of the Romans' used by rulers of the HRE, which again suggests one did not have to be an emperor to lead or rule the Empire. I was wondering if someone could explain this to me. How could someone be the king of the HRE and only later become the emperor? Was there any difference in power and responsibility compared to being king or emperor.

I'm curious, are there historical factors that lead to AAVE or ebonics to be seen as "illegitimate" or "slang" in the eyes of mainstream America? A quick Google search on ebonics brings up a bunch of forum posts of people deriding it as "not a real language", and as far as I can tell (obviously not scientific evidence, just personal anecdotes), the average American doesn't consider it a dialect. Is this racial in nature, or have there been incidents in the history of the USA that fostered this viewpoint?

I adore watching the show Rome, and get lost reading about the various rulers on Wikipedia. I would love to get more in depth with the history. Straight historical literature can be a bit dry for my taste, so something a bit engaging would be nice. I also am a huge fan of historical fiction, so if there happens to be some great works on the Roman Empire that are historically accurate with the added fictive, then I'd be interested in that too.
