I love this show and it's ignited an interest in the Viking history. But I was curious if there were any major discrepancies with their portrayal of viking history? I'm only starting season 3 so please refrain from nay big spoilers if possible? Thanks

I find limited materials on this subject. My specific questions are:

Who was eligible for it? Was it exclusive to Rome as a city? Were slaves allowed to receive welfare? When and why did it start? When did it end (if at all)? Was it wide spread knowledge that there is free grain in the capital across the empire and what was the opinion of the practice in the other regions?

Like what percentage?

What I wanted to know was what they had to tell the years apart. Counting seasons makes sense and I know fictional properties will sometimes say "she was 5 winters old" but that means someone had to keep track of that time. With writing being more difficult than jotting down a quick note then how did they keep track of ages and time?

While only scarce amounts of fragmented writings in Etruscan and other languages spoken on the italian peninsula have survived (other than Latin of course), the Greeks had a strong literary tradition and a more significant corpus of it has come down to us in the present. The Greeks also founded colonies in Sicily and southern Italy as a part of their Mediterranean trading networks, so surely they must have been in contact with the locals in the rest of the italian peninsula (as evidenced by the Etruscans getting their alphabet from the Greeks). Thus I'm wondering if anything was written down that has survived describing the places and peoples there. My curiosity isn't just limited to the Latins, but to any groups there.

So i have watched the fall of the Eagles bbc series and i have reach the episode of when Wilhelms ministers advise him to allow Bolshevik revolutionaries into russia through germany. Wilhelm, understandingly, is reluctant of allowing this because he sees the danger in having such a large, bolshevik, nation as his neighbor to the east. My question is, what was Wilhelms true opinion of this plot? Did he really believe in the danger of allowing these bolsheviks, such as lenin, into russia would create an enemy into a monster?

Why were forts and whatnot so important to stall enemy advances? Its not like they built walls spanning the entire width of france! ...did they?

What would Spain need to do something like this? Would the requirements be unreasonable? If largely impossible, please explain what would be so obstructive.

Since North Korea is always banging on about reunification, and North Vietnam took over South Vietnam, did East Germany ever have a policy of seeking reunification of Germany as one communist country? And if not, why not?

Where were the Roman legions mostly drawn from in late antiquity in the Western Roman Empire. Based on my understanding, Italy was providing a minimal amount of troops, and Gaul/Spain were being utilized to provide barbarian auxiliaries . So where exactly did the legions drawn their soldiers from?

I am planning on taking the US history SAT in a couple months. I have a good background in US History, but i was wondering what the best ways to learn American history are? What are the best Pod-casts, books, documentaries, textbooks etc.

I have America the last best hope by William Bennet that i am reading right now and it seems to be a very thorough history book. Is this a good option, or is there something better?
