At several points in his life, Napoleon entertained ideas of invading India. How serious were these plans?

Some of them (such as the plan to invade either India or the Ottoman Empire during his Egyptian campaign) were clearly just idle musing, but were any of them ever serious, and if so could any of them feasibly have worked?

How did Pablo Escobar become so rich and powerful through drugs, but still become a congressman in Columbia?

I'm watching the new Netflix orginal "Narcos" and it's quite interesting. I'm wondering mainly how widely known his dirty little secrets were. Drugs, murder, overall corruption.

Why has the Japanese government tolerated the existence of the Yakuza?

Inspired by this article.

It appears that they have significant power and act out in the open. I would have thought that a rich, Western country wouldn't tolerate such visible and powerful criminal organizations.

Has there never been a push in Japan to crack down on the Yakuza the same way that the U.S. did with the Mafia?

How difficult was it to acquire sheet music of popular European pieces in the 18th and early 19th centuries? Were there official copies or transcriptions of varying qualities? If one had a pocket of coins, could they find a Bach concerto in a medium sized town or city with ease?

In the Aubrey/Maturin novels, the two men seem able to find sheet music throughout England, naval installations, and elsewhere. They gift it to others and even seek out particular pieces. Would it have been possible to get a Moller, Mozart, or Handel piece with minimal effort and ready money during this period?

Is Europa Universalis Accurate in its way of Depicting "Duchies"?

So, something I've been wondering a long time about has been why nations like Brittany and Burgundy are called Duchies, rather than Kingdoms. I know that a Duchy is just a state led by a Duke or Duchess, but I'm confused if they were independent or not in someway. The way Europa Universalis depicts duchies is a kingdom that has been vassalized by another, and then the vassal takes the title Duke/Duchess and forfeits the name "Kingdom" in favor of "Duchy." Is this correct?

As the title says, it's from Norway, found in a gård(farm) where their specialty was making shoes(cobbler). If you could expand on what it is, it would be greatly appreciated

How deeply ingrained were notions of modesty in the 1920s? (Asked in the writers' subreddit, they redirected me here)

Writing a book set in 1929. How obsessively did people conform to modesty rules? The reason I ask is I'm about 12 chapters in, and one of the main protagonists (female) has let her male friend into her bathroom via the window while she's having a bath. They're known each other for some time, they're both 17 and the girl's parents have effectively grounded her, hence her having to see this boy covertly. She's in a towel when she opens the window but later sheds the towel and gets in the bath. Would this realistically happen that a girl in the 1920s would be this immodest? She's quite outgoing, but I guess I've always seen people of the past as prudes. Book is set in England, and the characters are both middle-class :)

Why did some Scandinavian countries have a foreign king?

I believe Sweden had and still has a French family ruling. Usually monarchies have an order of succession for the country's people and the King's/Queen's family, right?

The partition of India was (largely) based on dividing up Hindu and Muslim regions. Knowing this, in the present day, why are there so many Muslims in India (both in raw numbers and percentage of overall population), but comparatively few Hindus in Pakistan?

When I say Pakistan, I mean both current Pakistan and Bangladesh (former East Pakistan).
