Can anyone point out, preferably online, a sample manifest of goods that a ship (or small fleet of ships) sent to found a new colony during the 15th-17th centuries would be carrying? I would imagine at least a couple manifests such as this would exist.

I'm curious for things like lists of tools, supplies, food, maybe even a list of desired colonist skills / professions (such as "two blacksmiths, one tailor", etc).

To be honest this came to mind while watching the new show Utopia and thinking of how something like this should have been done--drop them off on an uninhabited island with the equivalent of a colony ship's manifest.

I have taken 2 history courses in college and am currently in my last history class. While reading the text books, it's like women were none existent throughout history, except for the occasional mentioning of successful women. When I'm doing my readings, it's just a long narrative of all the accomplishments of men and their strive for freedom (with the exception of women). I was wondering what your thoughts are on this and if this is a problem that should be addressed and taken seriously

If so, could they do this from their home colony or would they have to finance passage to the Great Britain in order to join?

My family has very little money, so I need to be sure of what I decide to go to college for, there will be no changing of my major halfway through, because I cannot afford to have an extra year or two. I want to be an Archaeologist, but I am very concerned that I won't be able to find a job in that field, or any field for that matter (due to my degree), and then I'll be stuck with a massive amount of student debt. Is it difficult to obtain a job in this field, or should I just go with something else?

Hirohito denounced his divinity yet Kim Il Sung is still eternal president. Seems a little out of left field, and certainly more anthropological than historical (we all understand the overlap, though)...

...but, what is the history of posing for photos? Why such dour, long faces in the 1860s and why do we well smile for most photos nowadays? Why do we say "cheese"? Were there any odd traditions in posing that have come and gone, only to be subsequently forgotten?

I was thinking about the level of excitement that fans can get over authors unfinished works, specifically the way some of George R.R. Martin's fans chastise him for not working fast enough and openly talking about the possibility of him dying before finishing. I know they are very different types of books. Did some of Marx’s readers feel he was not spending enough effort on writing his work, and was his health a discussed topic in regards to completing Das Kapital?

I ask this because I was reading on the American Civil War, and the reasons why the Confederacy lost against the Union, such as the Norths higher population, more railways, better economic and industrial infrastructure, etc.
