Let's say I'm living there in 1933. How long can I continue my existence, under increasing persecution, until I'm eventually deported to a concentration and/or death camp?

Being descended from German migrants to Russia, I'm curious about what motivated them to come to Russia and how they were treated there.

I'm aware that Catherine the Great, who was German herself, encouraged Germans to come to Russia. What policies did she implement to encourage them to immigrate? Did the following Czars implement similar immigration policies? What sort of people were attracted by these policies? How long did these policies last?

This leads to the second question of how Germans were treated in Russia. How strong was the pressure to assimilate? I am aware that the Russian Empire was not particularly friendly to non-Christians, so I might as well ask about the treatment of Christians who did not adhere to Eastern Orthodoxy. Were they allowed to practice freely? Was there strong pressure to convert? Most of my understanding of how much assimilation pressure there was is anecdotal evidence – my ancestors who left Russia for the United States were Protestants and preferred to speak German over Russian.

The letter H has a lot of uses in English that are different from the standard H sound: sh; ch; th; wh; ough, etc. In Spanish it makes no sound at all. The city named after the Emperor Hadrian is called Adrianopole. In Danish, IIRC, H also makes inconsistent sounds.

Why does the letter H have so many different uses?

I understand the ship misidentified the aircraft as an Iranian fighter jet, but why would the US military shoot down an Iranian fighter jet in the first place?

It seems like a whole grey area to me that between classical music, and the jazz movement.

Where there concerts? Church gatherings of Gospel music? A mix of both?

Both german names are easily pronounced in English. Presumably because English has germanic roots. So who changed them for the English speaking world, and why?

I cannot find any good resources on why the European priests were so eager to convert Native Americans. My textbook merely states that priests came over to convert, but it doesn't say why did they were so eager.

Movies and pop culture all have swords being handed down through generations, but I'd have thought the constant dents and sharpening required would eventually scrape away enough steel that you'd need to replace it eventually.

I'm dating a globe as accurately as possible for my world history class. I was looking at pictures of the continents to see if there were any major changes and noticed that there was a Morocco, Morocco. I've had trouble finding anything of relevance on google and figured historians were the people to ask. When did the city Morocco exist in Morocco?

Western and South American countries are Christian based. Eastern are Hindu, Buddist, or Shinto. Africa is a mixture. The Middle East is Islam.

Why didn't Islam ever take over as a major or dominate Reglion in Europe or Asia (manly Mongola, China, Japan, or any of the SE-Asian countries other then Indonesia)? Islam had several golden ages of learning, art, science, writings, and more.

Why wasn't there a major movement to install a Islamic nation in Europe? We're there any I'm not aware of?

In Australian high schools we learned that basically white folks came here and killed everyone, and not much more detail is given. Was there any large-scale resistance to this? Did Aboriginal mobs ever actively go to war with the colonists?

I was reading a book on theology. At one point it writes, "In fact, we do not have to wait that long to see Roman power fulfilling the role of protector of the Christians. Thus already in 35, on the basis of a report sent to him by Pilate, the Emperor Tiberius proposed to the senate that Christ should be recognised as a god[sic]. The senate refused this request, and declared that Christianity was an 'illicit superstition'; but Tiberius ignored this and imposed a veto on any accusations being brought against the Christians in the future."

Is this true? That Tiberius thought it appropriate for Jesus to be worshipped as a pagan deity? I tried to search this claim on google and only found something about Christianity being recognized as a legitimate religion. I imagine that meaning Christ could be worshipped among other pagan deities as one of them. Is that so?

New parent here, and these seem like pretty handy items. I know there also used to be cloth diapers - do we have any anti poop methods that pre-date those?

And how did that practice end? (If it has.)
