How historically accurate is the game Age of Empires 2?

I'm curious to know how accurate the civilizations are and the technologies available. Also, how accurate are the moves from Dark Age to Feudal Age etc. in terms of the units available. Did anything like this happen in real life? Were some civilizations better equipped than others? I really have no idea.

Did an average citizen of ancient Rome, in the city of Rome, share looks with a citizen of Rome today?

This came up with my latin professor and he said that various frescos in Pompeii show some similarities, but he, not being an historian, wasn't qualified to answer. So I thought I'd ask here. I looked through the Popular Questions but couldn't find a satisfactory answer. Thank you in advance for the reply.

Questions about the history of Jewish theology

[This is copied from a comment made in another thread. It was suggested that I post my questions as a new dedicated question.]

I believe I read recently something to the effect of: there are some academics who do not view Christianity as having been borne from Judaism, but that Judaism and Christianity both arose concurrently. I'm assuming that this refers to Rabbinical Judaism and Christianity, and it seems to imply that Rabbinical Judaism is as different from the Judaism being practiced pre-diaspora as Christianity is.

Is this true? To what extent did Judaism evolve as a direct effort to differentiate itself from Christianity, if at all? How different is Rabbinical Judaism from post-exile/pre-diaspora Judaism? And (I'm sorry if this sounds like a loaded question), without centralized temple sacrifice, what makes modern Jews "Jewish"? What's the justification behind no longer performing those rituals?

Why didn't the rulers of the British Empire ever take the title of Emperor for themselves?

Typically, when one thinks of an Empire, they think of an Emperor or Empress at its head. But the British styled themselves Kings and Queens. Why is that?

I have never once seen a reference to Roman archers. Did the Romans de-emphasize long-range weaponry? Were they more vulnerable against groups of archers?

If the Roman military deliberately ignored archery, why? What impact did this have on their wars? Would foreign archers be hired?

For what reasons did Jews, Christians, and Romans not practice human sacrifice?

Did they consider human sacrifice abhorent or barbaric? It appears that many contemporary societies (such as Germanic Pagans and Carthaginians) found it normal.

Did the Allies have a plan in the event of a failure on D-Day? If so, what was it?

I was looking at this recent /r/pics post and started wondering what the plan was in the event that the Germans pushed back the invasion at some point after the beachhead was established. Was there a logistical plan in place to get all those vehicles, people, and materiel back on ships and back to England? Would it even have been possible with decent warning? At what point would they have decided to abandon the beachhead?

Early American Democracy vs British Parliamentarianism

So in grade school in America, we're taught that when America formed a democratic government, it was seen as so radical that many of the founding fathers thought it was hopelessly idealistic. But isn't parliamentarianism democratic? Citizens all vote for their representation and such? So was that just an American myth, or was American democracy truly radical? If so, how did it differ from British parliamentarianism?

Can you guys please help me find a region in pre WWI Ukraine called Dobromil?

My family name is Dobromiski (or Dobromilsky). I'm a young man, my early twenties. But, given what my father has told me about our family name, I am under the impression that there was a province, a town, a something by the name of Dobromil in pre WWI Ukraine. I hesitate to say that we were pseudo royalty (partly because I have no idea and partly because it sounds incredibly egotistic), but my grandmother insists that she once looked at a map of pre WWI Ukraine and found some sort of geographical area called Dobromil (I assume that this is the correct spelling but I could be wrong). A family anecdote we have that supports this fact is that, when my great grandmother, living in Cleveland at this point, would bring up the fact that her last name was Dobromilski (or Dobromilsky), Eastern European immigrants would kiss her hand.

I've Googled it briefly and come up with these five Wikipedia redirects: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dobromil

I am, however, unsure as to where it was. I would presume that it was in Ukraine, which would be supported by these anecdotes. My great grandfather John Dobromilski's father had something to do with this dynasty from what I understand. I am currently trying to look up his name but don't know what it is. I will update this post as I find out more information.

This is one of the most stringently moderated subreddits that I know of, and, more importantly, one that pertains to my question. If any of you guys can help me out, I would appreciate it more than you can imagine. Please feel free to reply to this post or PM me. We really do have a lot of family history riding on this question.

Were Germanic people predispositioned to being mercenaries during the 19th century?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but before Germanic people became a centralized nation they were kind of nomadic and travelled in tribes. As a result, their warfare resembled that of guerrilla warfare where they would attack in smaller numbers for the purpose of gaining wealth. They lacked centralized leadership and attacked as loose bands of people instead of as a united force. I recently read that they made up a large number of the mercenary force during the 18th and 19th century.

I may be making a large leap here in asking this question, but was this at all linked to Germanic tribes' history of being raiders and having a lack of centralized leadership during their warfare? In short, can we link older Germanic culture to Germans being predispositioned to being mercenaries later in history?

Did US Marines participate in the D-Day invasion? Did US Marines ever fight in Europe during WW2? Why or why not?

I was looking at some pictures of D-Day on the huffington post and noticed a picture of several men hauling an artillery piece out of a landing craft. The picture is labeled "US Marines landing at Normandy in amphibious landing craft on D-Day, June 6, 1944. (A. E. French/Archive Photos/Getty Images)" and can be found at the following link (see picture 5):

I was always under the impression that US landing forces at D-Day were Army- is this picture wrong? Or were there small numbers of US Marines involved?
