I was watching boardwalk empire and they mentioned the ride across from southhampton to America. I just wondered how safe it was and how scary it could be?

I know The Battle of Midway is surely one, and can guess at the rest, but having trouble googling a definitive source on all five.

Some context: Today are the elections for the European Parliament happening in several countries. Germany will send 96 representatives and there is no formal election threshhold (i.e. no 3% or 5% minimum percentage). This will lead to up to 13 parties from Germany being represented, with about half of them with only one member. I've come across a lot of commentors in various media who claim that the occurence of extremely minor parties was at least partially responsible for the failure of the parliamentary system of the Weimar Republic. How large was the influence of this, especially compared to other problems, e.g. the large amount of representatives from the far left and right not interested in democracy?

I've read that many people have claimed that man for man the rhodesian light infantry was as good as most of the top elite special forces in the world like the US Rangers and Green Berets. Is this true?

I've heard before that his anti-semitism developed when he was homeless and an adult in Austria and that this was the same time he became interested/active in politics. So I'm sure some people suggest that he was just doing it because he picked up on something that would get him into a position of power.

No heads for it, and one of the rims is broken in half. The carrying rope is on the side.
As far as I know, his family is polish (my mom was adopted so I don't share his genetic line). He knows they share the same last name at least as far back as his grandfather, which is Krakow, but doesn't know if it was ever changed or different before that.
Is it likely that this is a legitimate artifact from the war?

I remember reading about Native Americans in the great plains making observations on tornadoes and it got me thinking about how other indigenous people dealt with their own natural disasters.
I understand that "Polynesian" is a problematic term but I'm not too familiar with the region, so don't be afraid to take some liberties with the question.

I'm trying to work out a the line of succession for Game of Thrones and I hit a snag when I got to the Targaryens. SPOILER ALERT: Prince Rhaegar dies before King Aerys, so would Rhaegar's son be heir or would it pass to Daenerys?

It was a ubiquitous part of the rations of many allied nations, but I'm wondering how SPAM (Hormel states all caps is proper BTW) was prepared in US forces. There are only so many common ways to serve it, and I'm sure the various military branches had recipes to follow. Was it just sliced and fried, or did it find it's way into different dishes?

I have recently heard the argument that in the Modern History of East Asia a Neo-Confucian revolt was needed before a state could modernize. This was applied to Japan and China as well as Korea's struggle in modernisation. I was wondering what people's views were on this line of thinking. Do you agree? Why? and if not do you see any trends in the modernization of these three countries?

I'm working on a pet project that places a heavy emphasis on English geography circa 1200, and I'm in desperate need of a better map to work from. The more detail the better, especially regarding county lines, important towns, castles, trade routes, geographical features, etc. The map doesn't have to be online of course, if its in a book and worth it I'm happy to buy it. Local county maps would help as well. Thanks!

Even though the UK has traditionally had a fairly large percentage of redheads, there's a lot of negative personality and behaviour traits associated to having red hair - gingers don't have souls/bad tempers/ lustful etc. Is there any sort of historical basis for this? When/Why did it become a negative thing to have red hair?
Was there ever a redhead monarch/famous figure/warriors who started the stereotype? I remember reading a quote in a history textbook when I was at school about how Queen Elizabeth I was mocked for her hair being more red than flaxen.
