Or did the other thieves break their own rules, indulging in cooperation and corruption involving the Soviet ruling infrastructure?
And when did the Vor code crystalise? Within the gulags, or afterward?

I posted this question over at /arthistory, but things were pretty quiet there so I thought i'd try my luck here. I've found a few cursory mentions of the friendship/working relationship between Degas and Dethomas, but am yet to find any concrete information of an academic nature. I was hoping any Degas fans may be able to help. Book titles or otherwise would also be most appreciated! Thanks!

Hello, was hoping that some of you historians could help me. I'm looking for WWII footage with the original audio, so no music or commentary. Didn't have any luck posting this on a r/askreddit so hopefully this goes better here!
Thanks!

I just finished watching The Pianist & was curious about the point in time when the tragic murder of millions of Jewish people was given a specific name.
Was it during the war or long afterward? Is it of Polish/German/Hebrew origin?

When was the first time someone wrote down how to make food or drink in something we'd recognize as a recipe?
On a related note, what is the earliest known cookbook?

I'd be interested in hearing about the origins of its current connotations as well as any previous meanings, connotations, etc. of the symbol.

Great Britain, Germany, Austria-Hungary and Russia were the Great Powers(I think), but I feel like they could have avoided WW1 with a pact or a treaty but I'm unsure why they couldn't.

I'm not even sure whether this is a historian job or a philologist's (or both), but I've always wondered how on earth can someone figure out a language of which there's no speaker or at least a registry of its workings in a know language.
Any info on this process? I guess they try to spot some common used words or glyph (like a King's name) and work from there, but even that seems a very hard do grasp concept to me.
Also, when these people decipher these languages do they also learn how they sound out loud or they just can understand their meaning?

When you think bout the '50s, '60s, '70s, and '80s in America, there are very clear and distinct styles associated with them (mainly fashion, popular culture, and technology). Was there a similar evolution of style in the Soviet Union? Did it evolve alongside with US?

Just a bit interested, because it seems that very often wars aren't simply two sided, and I'm wondering if there was another group(s) involved in the revolution that was against both the colonists and the british.

Even today, Jewish people are treated differently that white people in some ways; what I'm asking is when did those two groups start being grouped together. How do historians conceptualize this type of analysis?

Wikipedia says that him being kidnapped again is the leading theory, but that there is no evidence to this conclusion. Anybody on here have any information about Solomon Northup that wikipedia doesn't. Yes, I saw the movie today, and it was phenomenal, and I'm extremely curious if anyone has any clues about him.

Was there a distinct race or was the empire composed of a multitude of races.

Hey, sorry if this is too crude for this sub but I've been wondering about this for a while. When I did Modern History they told us that a part of Lebensborn was that the Hitler Youth and League of German Girls were encouraged to date and have sex during camps so that Germany would have more citizens for the post-war period of Aryan dominance, are thee any actual records of this?
