This article says that its a myth. If that is so, then are the stories of famous historical figures going blind by reading under candlelight false?
As a followup question, who do you have in mind for historical figures who went blind from reading by candlelight? The only person I can think of who notably read by candlelight was good old Abe Lincoln, who didn't go blind.
