All this in a year when access to Egypt has been troublesome at best, the head of the antiquities service fired and a new one appointed and the country went through a second revolution. These are only the official finds too, there are still plenty which have not yet been published and even more if you were to count finds by looters.

In terms of 'uncovered ruins' its fairly safe to say we have all the big monuments, including those in Sudan. Egyptian Archaeology has now progressed to the far more difficult settlement archaeology of sites in the flood plains. Over the next couple of years we will also see a lot more coming from Sudan due to an emergency archaeology exercise provoked by hydroelectric dam construction and as they start building on their tourism industry.
