Bersaglieri (PIC INCLUDED)

by Ziganin

Hello My grandfather was a Bersaglieri during the war. Was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about this: http://i.imgur.com/dbuYtRx.jpg?1.
I know that the Bersaglieri were light infantry, skilled marksmen and ran during marching parades. Other than that, I know nothing else. Does anyone know where I can find detailed information? Like if I was trying to find his exact unit or squad? Or can anyone talk about the symbolism in the collage? Thanks

The Bersaglieri where elite light infantry. I think it was Rommel said, The German soldier has impressed the world, however the Italian Bersaglieri soldier has impressed the German soldier. They where incorperated into the mechanised divisions of the time.

They where very active on every front, especially the desert war where Rommel himself shined. (for instance Mersa Matruh, Kasserine pass) They also fought in Greece, France and Russia (with less succes)

http://www.comandosupremo.com/ is a good way to find articles and information on many things about the Italian Royal Army.

I myself as a historian read many books about the Italian army, specifically during WWII and the Bersaglieri always shine.

I am afraid I can't tell you anything about the picture, it does seem to have a man with the typical Bersaglieri hat in it.
