What can you tell me about this soviet era military uniform?

by [deleted]

I picked this uniform up at Goodwill this afternoon and would love more information on the uniform.

Very curious to know: Who would wear it? What was their rank? What division of the military it is? Does it hold any sort of value? Is it legal to own this in the US?

Thanks!

Yes, it's a Senior Lieutenant (three stars, one strip on shoulders) of the Air Force (blue colour, "propeller and wings" emblem). Officer's jacket should actually be worn with a shirt and tie (third picture here ) and what you call a shirt looks rather like a "summer field jacket for sergeants and privates" from the third picture here. Pictures are from the 1988 regulations on the uniform in the Soviet Army: http://www.vedomstva-uniforma.ru/forma1988/1988.html.

The trio of stars on the shoulder are very similar to the Soviet rank insignia for Senior Lieutenant as this image shows. The lapel insignia are indicative of the Air Technical Service as this image shows.

As to whether this is a legitimate Soviet military uniform, I don't know. This is just some basic information I was able to run down for you.

Nothing more to contribute that hasn't been said already, but as a collector of Soviet military regalia, I'm kinda jealous. You mind me asking how much you were able to get them for? Congrats on the awesome find!
