The Monasteries of Luoyang(Luoyang qielan ji, 洛陽伽藍記, written in the 6th century) places the first Buddhists as arriving in China in 40CE, I believe.

I don't think it'd be considered a major religion until the "Sanjiao" concept of... either the Sui or Tang dynasty, after 500CE at any rate, and about a hundred years after Bodhidharma (Poti Tamo) arrived in China and kicked off the whole Ch'an Buddhism thing.

"Sanjiao" means "three teachings" and refers to Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism.

EDIT FOR CLARITY: The answer to your question is "no."
