I need Go-to, but teenager friendly reads.

by Navitych

So I've acquired a sudden urge to start reading up on history; more so ancient history. The classes in school just don't cut it. I'm looking for some easier-to-grasp reading. I'm more so leaning into old religions, empires, ancient civilization and history in general. Any help is thanked.

One of our users recently made an excellent post with book recommendations for high schoolers:

What are the best books about important historical events aimed specifically towards middle/high school his5ory enthusiasts?

This should of course not stop anyone from recommending more books.

There is also our AskHistorians book list. You might find some interesting but still readable books on there.

Honestly, there is nothing I would recommend higher than the Cartoon History of the Universe series. I loves those when I was younger. Still do really. Although presented in what is obviously not the most academic of formats, the books are still pretty damn interesting. The bibliography is pretty thorough too, but the only thing I would caution is that especially in the older volumes, some stuff might be a bit dated. Still great as an introductory history volume for kids and teens though (and young at heart adults!).
