I've not read this book, but bear in mind that nearly all memoir-type books are to at least some degree self-aggrandizing. Heck, the decision to write a memoir is in itself an ego thing.
That of course doesn't mean that books like this are not worthy of your time. They quite often are. Just bear in mind the difficulty most people have with self-criticism. Political screeds tend to suffer from this vice a bit more than other personal accounts.
