Fall of Italian Naval Power in the 16th century

Is it true that the high price of timber in the Adriatic was a principle reason for the collapse of the Venetian naval power in the 16th century?

Having read Norwich's History of Venice the main reasons were turkish expansion in the eastern Mediterranean and the portuguese discovery of the route around Africa making the mediterranean one obsolete. The venetians didn't have the chance of taking part in the atlantic route because their ships where not adecuate for oceanic voyage. I don't remember anything about timber prices, the dalmatian coast was under they control and in there they had a good supply of wood.
