The Romans counted years from the founding of Rome, which the Romans believed occurred in 753 BC though the site of Rome had been settled by humans much earlier. Possibly if Christianity never caught on, we might still be counting from that year. Thus, it would now be the year 2767.

With out religion what year would it be?

It depends what part of the world you're in. Because there was no single year-counting system in use around the world before the Anno Domini system was invented 1,500 years ago.

• The inheritors of the Roman Empire calendar would probably call the current year something like "the 7th year of the reign of Emperor Examplius" - because they adopted the regnal year system after Emperor Justinian stopped appointing consuls (they had previously been referring to consular years).

• The inheritors of the Seleucid Era calendar would call the current year 2326 of the Seleucid Era - counting forward from the founding of the Seleucid Empire.

• If China had not abandoned its imperial heritage in the past century or so, the Chinese would probably call the current year "the second year of the reign of the Emperor Ping Di" - they were another culture that used regnal years.

• Inheritors of the Hellenic tradition might call the current year the third year of the 698th Olympiad - counting forward in four-year periods from the first Olympic Games.

You'd have to choose a definitive point at which we "started recording." Do you mean when humanity started recording history? Then we'd be looking at Sumer and Egypt around 3500 (BC). If that's an acceptable date to begin with, simple math tells us 3500 + 2013 puts us at 5513, give or take 33 years whether you believe in Jesus the historical figure.
