Obviously spirits, tobacco. Coffee was available, but very expensive, no?
Opium obviously, the opium wars and so on.
Did they have equivalents to amphetamines and cocaine? What uppers, what downers, what hallucinogens? Which ones were cheaper, which ones were rare?
Thank you.
Um.
There are lots of definitions of what period "the Middle Ages" covers, but no one's going to define it as occurring later than 1500.
Tobacco, cocaine, and coffee (and chocolate) are new world products, only available from the sixteenth century on.
The Opium Wars were in the nineteenth century.
You should check this post. The top comment explores the use of opium, psychoactive drugs and cannabis. It should answer some of your questions.
I'm being pedantic here, I know, but "narcotics" refers only to opioids i.e. opium, morphine, fenatyl etc... What you (OP) are asking about is the use of psychoactive substances.
