What did America's leaders think of Napolean (pre-exile)? I'm asking specifically about the fact that he managed to go against most of Western Europe. Did the allied forces entice the United States to join in the efforts to stop him?

This was actually a very big issue in early America - the Federalists (Franklin, Adams, Washington (unofficially), and their allies) were against the revolutionary French government due to how violent and chaotic the revolution had been. The Antifederalists/Republicans (Jefferson, Paine, and later on, Madison) were with them - they saw the revolution as a victory for the common man against tyranny. Later on, America started to fight with Napoleonic France due to the French navy's seizure of American ships. We actually fought an undeclared war against them - the Quasi-War.
