Where does the gesture of touching one's nose and pointing to imply correctness come from?

What cultures does this exist in? I'm from California and this is new to me.

It is used in Charades, as a standard way to say "that's right!" Acted charades started in England in the mid-19th century according to Encyclopedia Britannica.

I'm not sure if the gesture was there from the beginning, or if it was appropriated later from Commedia Dell'arte.
