I'm writing an essay about the influence race between USSR and USA during the Cold War and I would like to know what political ways did each country use to influence others. Go into detail please.
I don't want to do your homework for you but definitely look into the Soviet Union using the American Civil rights issue as a way of influencing support from African leaders (i.e. Patrice Lumbaba in Congo). In terms of influencing other countries take your pick really. Cuban revolutionaries, Che and Castro, were supported by Khrushchev whereas the Batista government was backed by the US. In Guatemala nationalist leader Arbenz's policies (nationalizing banana farms) were supported by the USSR whereas the coup d'etat that forced him from power were American CIA backed. Also look to Korea and Vietnam as obvious other examples
