Was there a land equivalent to the Naval command "General Quarters" or "Action Stations"? I'm particularly curious about fort or castles. If not, why not?
Thanks.
In an Australian Army unit, the equivalent to the command "Action Stations" i.e. "Take up your station for action" is "Stand to" which is an order for all personnel to take up their weapon and basic webbing and stand to their position in expectation of an attack. Troops are required to maintain the readiness until given the order "Stand Down".
