BIBLE - The Sacrifice of Isaac

by flippylumpy

Hello, I'm a collage student who's now working on our thesis about the sacrifice of Isaac. It is a vissual animation were working on. Now, I am having troubles thinking how do Abraham got a fire to light up the woods they had to mount Moriah for the burnt offering? Where did he get it? Or does he already had a fire with him like a lamp thing? Or a torch? Please help. THanks!

I do not have expertise in this subject matter, so I can't give you an answer, but at the level of method I would suggest that you refocus your question.

If you were to reframe this as a question about ancient near eastern technology ("What technologies existed for lighting fires around the 9th century BCE in the area of Syria and Canaan," or something along those lines), it would help historians help you.

We don't know, the text doesn't indicate.

There's an argument with a small group of scholars arguing that the story is a 2nd millennium BC story, and a larger group arguing it's a 1st millennium story (and perhaps some who argue it's a bit of both). Either way, there's a number of oil lamps that cover that time period.

The narrative in Genesis 22 refers to Abraham carrying a "fire", so presumably he brought some sort of torch or lamp to ignite the wood.
