Best History Podcasts?

by Discobiscuts

Hey guys,

I'm currently a 3rd year History major with a focus on Canadian and South East Asian history. I'm relatively new to /r/AskHistorians and I was looking to do some additional learning on the side.

What are, in your opinions, the best history podcasts out there?

I routinely listen to Stuff you missed in history class. As the name would imply, they tend to go over interesting but more obscure people, places, and events in history but it's always entertaining. A few recent topics include:

  • The Crown Prince Sado of Korea
  • The Sinking of the S.S. Artic
  • The Lions of Tsavo
  • The Axman of New Orleans

Each episode is about 30 minutes long (with a few commercials for Stamps.com (kind of annoying but they have to get paid)).

Not to discourage new submissions but here is a link to a thread last time this was asked. http://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/11euj9/can_anyone_recommend_some_good_free_history/

The podcast list seems a bit lacking to be honest but worth a look. http://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/wiki/podcasts

Its mentioned in the earlier thread but I would recommend BBC radio 4's In Out Time series. Covers pretty much anything and has renowned academics from the field in for interview (usually 3 an episode). All episodes dating from 1999 are available free. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_In_Our_Time_programmes
