What did the Romans in 200 A.D. use as their guide to the gods and festivals? I'm struggling to find the genesis of their myths.
I've got Ovid's Fasti on order, but that's just a documentation of their Jan-Jun festivals. From the little I've read, it seems that Virgil's Aeneid only works off of existing myths.
But in the temple of Jupiter in Pompeii - what text did they teach from?
