I am miraculously transported to a street-corner in Brooklyn, New York, on a spring morning in 1914. What do I see?

You may be interested in the photographer Jacob Riis and his photo book How the Other Half Lives. He was a little bit before 1914, but he took wonderful photography of street life in New York. Bear in mind, that he was looking for the worst parts of the city, as he was considered a muckraker.
