Hello, all! I've been asking this question around reddit, and quite a few people directed me here.
I'm writing a short story, and my main character is a baker (hence why I need to know desserts). If anyone knows any, it would be appreciated. I'm trying to get past obvious things like streudel.
What part of Germany? Dampfnudel is a very traditional Bavarian dessert that might fit for your story. I made it once and it wasn't hard, but it's not a very "baker" dessert, not very fancy, you make it on the stove in a cast iron skillet. If it's around Christmas you can always do Stollen.
If he's a very adventurous baker (and rationing isn't an issue) you could actually have him do Black Forest cake, it's appearance is from around this era.
If he's a baker, he wouldn't make desserts or cakes. That would be the job of a confectioner (Konditor in German).
Bakers make baked goods.
