It seems like most Japanese weapons have very generic names. Type 100, type 99, and so forth. While the guns of other countries usually are named after their designer. Why is this? Why did they not name them?
But guns of other countries are not "usually named after their designer" either. Take the most common American rifle of the war. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1. Or the most widespread German rifle, Karabiner 98 kurz. Or the Russian M91/30. Not even the British designated their service rifle – Rifle, No. 4 Mk I – after its creator.
