Who did Rome's north African legions fight on a regular basis?

Just tribal raids? If so, what tribes specifically?

Not much to be exact. Carthage and Egypt were the big players in North-Africa and they were under Roman control. They just kept legions there to keep the peace so no revolts would occur. Lepidus (who had control of Africa in the second triumvirate with Mark Antony and Octavian) even gave his legions to Octavian after a while because not much happened .
