What do you mean "kill the press before the internet"? Print media is still very much alive. In large parts of the world it is still the dominant mass media. Sure, it's gradually losing market share but it's been doing that for over 50 years. You have to remember that print media once had 100% market share, it was the only mass media available, there's only one way to go from there.
When radio came, print lost some of the market to it, same thing when TV came and the same thing happened again with the introduction of the internet. Print media will probably die eventually, it's a less than optimal distribution channel after all, but the old print houses have long since been digitalized anyway.
