This may not be the best example, but interesting nonetheless.
On September 11, 1973, the Chilean military led by Augusto Pinochet overthrew then President Salvador Allende in a violent overthrow. However, the coup took much longer than expected due to the ingenuity of Allende and about 40 of his loyalest followers.
While trapped in the Presidential Palace, Allende and his group of roughly 40 advisors had to hold off roughly 2,000 infantry men. What they did was a constant rotation of men to and from various windows in the palace. It appeared to the infantry that there were countless men defending the palace. Because of this, the ground attack was mostly a failure, and it took air support to eventually break Allende. What should have taken 30 minutes ended up taking over 7 hours.
