Do you know of any resources which provide statistics for book publication in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries? I'm writing a PhD in English Literature and my current topic looks at the rise in book and periodical publication in those years, but I can't find any concrete statistics on the subject.
What I'd like to be able to do is say, for example, 'In 1922 XXXX books were published compared to XXXX in 1905'.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'm not an expert on English literature, and I can't point helpful literature out to you, but have you already consulted statistical yearbooks of the period in question? Sometimes, they list general information on publication numbers.
