Hitler, along with his wife Eva, committed suicide in April 1945. In accordance with Hitler's instructions, their remains were carried out of the bunker's emergency exit, doused in fuel (most likely petrol) and set alight in the Reich Chancellery garden outside the bunker.
Soviet records show that Hitler and Eva's burnt remains had been recovered and stored in several different locations until 1970, when they were once again exhumed, cremated and the ashes were scattered.
