What was the prevailing opinion of Napoleon and the Napoleonic wars in the United States?
Just a follow-up question to the original question - what about the reverse. What was Napoleon's view of the United States?
I've read that the Republicans at the time were known as "French Republicans" as a combination of being French Sympathisers and of French Heritage. This led to a strong anti-British sentiment in Congress and they were in favour of the friendly gesture of buying Louisiana. This was an important move in increasing American power and giving them the means to fight Britain.
Well, it did help motivate the War of 1812.
