I read this on a few different websites and i just don't believe it, it was so they could launch it faster. Was this really the case?

Depends on if you believe this man, who has argued that yes, it was.
I don't know more than that, but it seems that he believes as much, and almost all theories center on that. I haven't seen any official articles or papers besides this that admit it, though.
