Where French colonialists overwhelmingly hostile to Algerians? Or did a strain of sympathy exist in any form?

I have recently read some of Franz Fanon's work, and found him to be quite fascinating. In The Wretched of the Earth, Fanon seems to suggest that military power is the language of the colonizer, and that is the language through which a discourse must be achieved. What was French sentiment towards Algeria at this time?

As my mother told me stories about some, i would safely say, not all of them hated us, and some where actually against the colonisation, in France, Algeria was considered just part of the country and so civilians came here to live because at the time there wasn't the slightest doubt that there will be a revolution, let alone France being forced to leave.

Algerians where studying alongside colonists, heck even many of the Algerians at the time thought that truly, Algeria is just part of France.

That's what 130 years of occupation does to people.
