What was the international reaction to the Tlatelolco Massacre in Mexico city in 1968?

by marelen

A couple of months ago I read the book by Elena Poniatowska, The Night of Tlatelolco, and up to that point I had never linked the Olympic games with the 1968 protests, but seeing as it happened merely days before the games started I can“t see how would the government have managed to silence the whole thing and keep all the international media, who were already there, out of it.

Now we know the official version was a lie, but was it questioned outside of Mexico back then?

Thank you.

Im surprised i haven't seen comments in this thread, anyways im a Mexican myself and my dad was about 14 when it happened, he usually tells me that since the Olympics were 10 days after the massacre, most of the world was focused on the athletes, also, the goverment made sure to make the massacre look like it was done by the students, not by the police itself, so most countries just was it as a riot between students rather than a massacre, My english is not perfect but i hope that clears it up for you:)
