If the Suffragettes and the Government were so against each other, why were they both so willing to work together during WWI?

For the most part the suffragettes In warring nations work with the government because they believed that if they showed that they are patriotic and supporting they'd be rewarded with the vote. There were some exceptions to the idea of stopping the protests such as the National Womens Party.
