Sino-American Aviation History

by [deleted]

Hi guys and gals! I'm currently in a Sino-American relations history course, and I'm an avid student of Aviation history as well. To your knowledge, is there any joint Sino-American aviation history. I know about the AVG and the American Air forces in China flying the 'Hump' but I'm interested in learning more! Any help you have would be greatly appreciated!

You would likely want to look into Operation Matterhorn, the bombing of Japan by B-29's from airfields in China and India. You mention the AVG as well, and are likely aware of Robert Lee Scott Jr.'s book God is My Co-Pilot, which covers his time in the AVG and flying the "Hump." (You can largely ignore the modern uses of the title, as the book isn't preachy and the phrase refers to him flying solo over the Himalayas) Also, last time I visited the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force there was still an AVG jacket on display, along with its silk lining which featured an escape map and requests in Chinese to help the pilot.
