I was reading the book of Leviticus for a class and was wondering if an average Jew would be performing all of these sacrifices. It seems like it would be rather cost/time prohibitive. I do not know much about this area so any knowledge would be appreciated.
Some other questions that I have are:
Your main issue is that you're reading the general sacrifices to be performed as being required for every person individually. Most of the monetarily expensive sacrifices (70 bulls for Sukkot, for instance) simply had to be performed in the tablernacle, not done by each individual person. While that's not true of all sacrifices, it's true of many of them.
Additionally, many of the sacrifices were eaten, so the animals weren't "wasted".
