Looking for some books/films/articles about the day-to-day lives of German women living in Nazi Germany...all I can seem to find are articles/books on women raped by the soviets, spies, etc. Just looking for some material on regular civilian lives for a novel I'm hoping to write! Thanks :)
I would suggest Irene Guenther's Nazi Chic? Fashioning Women in the Third Reich (Berg, 2004), S. Jonathan Wiesen's Creating the Nazi Marketplace: Commerce and Consumption in the Third Reich (Cambridge, 2010), Peter Fritzsche's Life and Death in the Third Reich (Harvard, 2008), or Shelly Baranowski's Strength through Joy: Consumerism and Mass Tourism in the Third Reich (Cambridge, 2007).
Most of these studies touch on women's lives in Nazi Germany. Be sure to check footnotes and bibliography for further reading. I hope this helps?
On the reverse side I would recommend you read up on what happened to woman living in Soviet occupied Berlin after their fall. Lots of rape and hardships. Bad times for civilians or anyone for that matter.
