I'm sorry, but this is one of the vaguest, widest and least answerable questions that I've yet to see on this board. The answer is obviously yes, but the idea of putting everything together into a single reddit message is just mind-boggling. Not only is the scope unwieldy, but the "evolution of technology" and "fabric of Western culture" are vague terms that historians are generally quite uncomfortable with. I suggest you remove this question and rethink it into something more specific.
