After Andrew Jackson abolished the Second Bank of the United States and before Woodrow Wilson established the Federal Reserve, the United States did not have a Central Bank. J P Morgan was the de facto Central Banker of the United States. In 1895, in cooperation with the Rothschiids, J P Morgan supplied the US Treasury with 3.5 million Troy ounces of gold, and prevented the collapse of the US Banking industry following the panic of 1893. In 1907, J P Morgan acted sooner, and prevented the panic of 1907 from turning into a major depression, like the panic of 1893 did. J P Morgan grew tired of bailing out the US economy and being lambasted by the media. He was a strong proponent of the Federal Reserve System proposed by Woodrow Wilson. This cartoon may date to the period just prior to 1913, when J P Morgan was lamenting that he felt like Atlas, with the weight of the world on his back.
