Were there every Christian heresies that ran something the lines of: "God was so terrible in the Old Testament, especially to Job, maybe Satan over-through Him and Satan sent his only son, Jesus to set things right."

Any heresies where Satan is the good guy, not the quasi-libertarian teen angst good guy, but an actual good guy.

allak

Not that I am aware of.

But there was an early heresy, that of Marcionism, that said something similar, minus the Satan part. Namely, Marcion of Sinope (c. 85 – c. 160) did teach that the God of the old testament was quite distinct from the God of Jesus.

In this theology the old testament God was the creator of the world and the god of the Israelites, but was also vengeful and promoted genocide. Jesus was sent from another divinity ("outside" of this world, that had been created imperfect by the OT god) to save humanity, with his message of love and mercy.

Marcion used a version of the Gospel of Luke from which he eliminated the parts that referred to the relation between Jesus and the laws and the prophets of the old testament.

Marcionism was condemned as an heresy in 144 by the "official" Church.
