History lessons are full of the exploits of American, European, Soviet, Chinese, Japanese, and Australian forces in the second World War.
What did South American do?
How about India?
Was Mongolia involved?
Due to Nepal's close affinity with British India, Nepal declared war on Germany after the invasion of Poland in 1939. Nepal also declared war on Japan in 1941, following the US and the UK and sending 16 Royal Nepal Army battalions to fight the Japanese in Burma.
In total, Nepal sent over 250,000 men to fight the Axis powers and Japan in almost all theatres but primarily in Burma against the Japanese and in North Africa. They also fought in Italy and Greece in the European theatre, distinguishing themselves. The Gurkhas did exceptionally well, winning over 2,500 military awards, including 10 Victoria Crosses, the British Empire's highest military award.
The stories of individual gallantry in war are quite exceptional. In Burma, Lance Corporal Agansingh Rai, VC, led his unit on a charge against a number of machine-guns and a 37mm gun, killing a number of men single-handedly while armed with a Thompson gun and tossing grenades.
Or take the case of Rifleman Lachhiman Gurung, VC. Again in Burma, the Gurkha Rifles were holding a crucial point against the advancing Japanese. Rifleman Gurung was at his post when 200 Japanese attacked. Grenades were thrown, two of which Gurung managed to toss back. The third exploded in his right hand, blowing off his fingers. His two fellow soldiers down and out, Gurung single-handedly held his post for over four hours, firing his rifle point-blank at the advancing Japanese with his left hand. The Japanese eventually retreated, unable to break through. The next morning, over 80 Japanese were found dead, 31 directly in front of Gurung's section.
And these are just two out of the ten that received VCs.

Mexico declared war on the Axis powers on May 22, 1943. The reason for this was the sinking of 2 Mexican oil tankers by German U-Boats.
An air combat unit was formed and sent to U.S.A. for training. 299 elements including pilots and ground support crews trained in Greenville, Texas and Pocatello, Idaho. 2 pilots died during training and another 8 were discarded due to medical reasons. In the end 30 pilots were deemed to be combat ready and received the 201 Fighting Squad denominator.
The Mexican Air force Expeditionary Force sailed from San Francisco on the 27th of March 1945. Their destination was Manila where they were incorporated into the 58th Fighter Group of the USAAF.
In total the squadron flew 96 air combat missions, 785 offensive missions and 6 defensive missions for a total of 196,615 hours of flight.
