Churchchill said of the Battle of Britain pilots "never in the field of human conflicts was so much owed by so many to so few". was he right?

Has a smaller number of people ever saved a larger number of people than the 500 odd BoB pilots saving the 48 million British?

Your figure of 500 should perhaps include the many thousands of supporting personnel, including mechanics, Observation Corps, Chain Home operators, anti-aircraft artillery crews, etc, who were directly involved both in enabling the pilots to function and in direct conflict with the Luftwaffe during air raids.
