As I understand most of the senate conspired and killed Caesar, because of peculiar changes that he made and considered his rise to power as tyranny. How was Caesars death explained to the public? What happened to the conspiring senate members, were they held responsible or was this let go? What did Marc Antony do and were there any military involvement? Who did the military power go to?
Just explain as much and in depth as possible to what changes took place in Rome afterward and your opinon to wether this was a good event or made things even worse.
After Caesar was killed nothing happened, basically a quiet before the storm.
When the funeral was announced a pyre was built on Campus Martius which is near the tomb of Julia.
Quote from Suetionius
...and on the rostra a gilded shrine was placed, made after the model of the temple of Venus Genetrix; within was a couch of ivory with coverlets of purple and gold, and at its head a pillar hung with the robe in which he was slain.
At the funeral, Caesars will was read to the people. According to Appian, the people were angered when they heard what Caesar gave to the people, they were angry because they had previously heard he was accused of tyranny.
When Caesars body was brought into the forums, many people ran to guard it and shield it. Antony told the herald to read the decree which gave Caesar all divine and human honours, Gaius Julius was decreed superhuman, sacred and Father of the country.
Antony resumed his speech, he said something in the lines of
I am ready to avenge him
which raised some commotion among the senators who recognized themesleves in the lines. Antony then showed the robe Caesar wore, it had plenty of holes and was red with Caesars blood. The people were now angry, not sad, and then Caesars wax body was raised, showing all of his wounds.
The masses, now incited, burned the Senate and ran to find the murderers, most of whom had already left Rome. Helvius Cinna was mistakenly killed as they though he was Cornelius Cinna, a simple name error.
The people then tried to bury Caesar on the capitol, amongst the gods. After the priests prevented them from doing so, they returned to the forum and made a funeral pile. Throwing woods and branches and any valuables they had, according to Appian crowns and millitary gifts were also thrown.
In the end, another triumvirate was created consisting of Lepidus, Antony and Octavian. After the battle of Phillippi, Cassius would take his own life believing Marcus Brutus did so. After the second battle of Phillippi, Brutus commited suicide leaving the Republic in the hands of the second triumvirate.
Before the Liberators civil war took place, there was the war between Antony and the Senate (Octavian led the armies), the conclusion of this war was the alliance between Octavian and Antony.
