The sport of jousting is currently the official state sport of Maryland. Did jousting have a significant presence in colonial Maryland? Also, if so, why?
I'm from Maryland and I thought it would be easy to find the answer on the various tourism pages. Only a brief mention that it was popular in the colonial era and experienced a revival after the Civil War.
